HAVE YOU STRAYED AWAY FROM ART?

Come just as you are…

I’m Kristen — artist, retreat host, and believer in the healing beauty of creativity.

Meet Kristen

Born and raised in Texas, I never imagined I would one day build a life in Southeast Asia.

But over the years, Thailand and the surrounding region have deeply shaped both my life and my artwork. The colors, landscapes, cultures, and everyday moments here continually inspire the way I see the world and the way I paint.

Somewhere along the way, watercolor became more than just a creative hobby for me. It became a place of rest, healing, and rediscovering joy — especially after years of perfectionism and self-doubt.

Painting taught me to slow down, notice beauty again, and embrace the unexpected.

Whether I’m painting a quiet market scene, tropical plants, misty mountains, or everyday life in Southeast Asia, I’m constantly reminded that beauty exists almost everywhere we learn to pay attention.

This retreat was created from that place.

My hope is not simply to teach watercolor techniques, but to create an experience where people feel inspired, refreshed, creatively awakened, and deeply connected to the beauty around them.

I’m so excited to share this experience — and this part of the world I love so much — with you.

  • November is Thailand’s cool season, making it one of the most comfortable and inspiring times of the year to visit Chiang Mai—and the perfect time for a watercolor retreat! The weather is pleasant and mild, ideal for painting, exploring, and immersing yourself in the beauty of northern Thailand.

    🌤 Average Temperatures in November:

    • Daytime: 25-30°C (77-86°F) – warm with plenty of sunshine.

    • Evening/Morning: 15-20°C (59-68°F) – cool and refreshing, especially in the countryside.

With soft golden light, misty mornings, and lush post-rainy season landscapes, this time of year offers a dreamy backdrop for creativity. You’ll want to dress in layers—light clothing for the day and a sweater or light jacket for the evenings.

☀️ Tip: Bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses for our daytime outings and a light scarf or jacket for those peaceful early mornings and crisp evenings. This season is all about feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready to create!

  • For travel to Thailand in 2025, here’s what you’ll need to know:

Most travelers from 93 countries, including the US and UK, can enter Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days. You MUST make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after your planned departure and has two blank pages.

Starting in May - you will need to fill out the Digital Arrival Card (TM6) before you travel, which replaces the paper form. I will send this information to you in our private IG chat for retreat attendees.

    • Passport with at least six month validity

    • Boarding pass to be presented at Passport Control

    • Hotel booking confirmation to show Immigration Officer if asked

    • Note: Vaccination record no longer required

Incorrect documents will delay the entry screening by the Thai immigration bureau and its Thai immigration officials.

Travel insurance that covers medical expenses while traveling is highly recommended, though not required.

As rules can change, it’s always a smart move to double-check with the Thai embassy or official immigration websites for the latest updates before you go. Check out their website here. Let me know if you need help!

  • When traveling to Thailand, there are a few things you should keep in mind to stay safe and prepared:

    • Weather and Sun Exposure: Thailand’s tropical climate can be hot and humid, even in November - the beginning of cold season. Remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and bring hats and light clothing for protection from the sun.

    • Mosquitoes: Mosquito-borne diseases like dengue fever and malaria are present in some areas. While we will not be on retreat during high-risk mosquito season, be sure to bring insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants in the evenings if you encounter mosquitoes, and consider checking your room for mosquitoes before going to bed. Mosquito repellent candles can be provided upon request during the retreat.

    • Road Safety: Traffic can be chaotic in some areas, and road conditions may vary. If you choose to go out on your own by car or scooter, it’s important to be cautious, wear helmets, and follow local traffic laws.

    • Water and Food Safety: To avoid stomach issues, it's best to drink bottled water, avoid raw or undercooked food, and eat at reputable places.

    • Wildlife: While Thailand is home to beautiful wildlife, it’s important to stay cautious around animals like stray dogs, or monkeys. These animals can sometimes be unpredictable or carry diseases like rabies. Even the gracious elephant has a mind of it’s own and should be respected!

    • Health Insurance: I highly recommend ensuring you have adequate travel insurance that covers medical expenses, including emergency evacuation, in case of illness or injury.

By preparing for these potential risks and taking simple precautions, guests can have a safe and enjoyable experience during our retreat!

  • As of March 2025, Thailand does not require travelers to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result for entry.

However, it's important to note that while Thailand has lifted these entry requirements, individual airlines may have their own policies regarding vaccination proof. Therefore, it's advisable to check with your specific airline before traveling.

Additionally, maintaining up-to-date vaccinations for routine illnesses, such as measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), COVID, and influenza, is recommended for all travelers. Overseas travelers are high recommend to receive the Hep A vaccination series along with their routine vaccinations.

To learn more about recommend vaccinations when traveling to Thailand, please visit the CDC website HERE.

Please note - we will be traveling in Thailand during a low-risk season for Malaria. You may consider Malaria prophylaxis with the advice of your local healthcare provider.

  • Booking your flight to Chiang Mai is easier than you think! Here are some tips to help you find the best route and prices:

✈️ Step 1: Search for Flights to Chiang Mai (CNX)
Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) is the main airport serving northern Thailand. Most travelers will need to book a flight with a layover in Bangkok (BKK) or another major hub in Asia, such as Seoul (ICN), Taipei (TPE), or Singapore (SIN).

🔍 Step 2: Use Flight Search Engines
Compare prices and routes using websites like:

💡 Tip: Set up price alerts to get notified when fares drop!

🛫 Step 3: Choose the Best Airline & Route
If you’re flying from DFW or Houston, my favorite airlines for comfort and service are:

    • Korean Air (Layover in Seoul, excellent service)

    • Singapore Airlines (Layover in Singapore, one of the best-rated airlines in the world)

    • Qatar Airways (Layover in Doha, luxurious experience)

Look at travel time carefully—some routes have long layovers, which can add extra hours (or even a day) to your journey. Also, pay close attention to time and date changes since you'll be crossing the International Date Line. Your arrival date in Thailand may be a day later than when you depart.

🌏 Step 4: Book a Connecting Flight to Chiang Mai
If your international flight lands in Bangkok (BKK), you will probably need to book a separate domestic flight to Chiang Mai (CNX). Several airlines offer frequent, affordable flights, including:

    • Thai Airways (Full-service, more luggage allowance)

    • Bangkok Airways (Full-service, boutique airline)

    • AirAsia, Nok Air, Lion Air (Budget airlines—great for low fares but check baggage policies)

🚖 Step 5: Getting from the Airport to the Retreat
Once you land in Chiang Mai, you’ll find plenty of easy options for getting to our retreat location:

    • Taxi or Grab (similar to Uber/Lyft)

    • Private car service (available upon request)
